Ukrainian gas transport and oil transport systems are an integral part of the European energy policy, President Viktor Yushchenko stated at the International Forum on energy safety held in Kyiv.
Yushchenko noted that presently the matter concerns formation of a new culture of energy carriers' transit from the East to the West enabling to minimize threats of energy safety. According to him, Ukraine has been already initiating reconstruction of transit facilities available in Ukraine.
In this context, the President noted that Ukraine owns the largest transit possibilities in Europe. "The Ukrainian gas transport and oil transport networks are regarded as an integral part of the European energy policy", Yushchenko said.
According to him, Ukraine approached the European Union with a proposal to form a common policy, including on the issues of reconstructing those arteries. As a result, in autumn the EU plans to allocate USD 2.5 billion for carrying out reconstruction of the Ukrainian gas transport network.
