The level of Ukrainian - Latvian dialogue demonstrates high political trust, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said during his talks with Latvian President Valdis Zatlers, who is staying on a state visit in Kyiv.
Yushchenko pointed out the importance for Ukraine of Latvia's support for Ukraine's European and Euroatlantic policy. He reminded that it was also not easy for Latvia to obtain membership in the European Union and NATO, but on the path to this target it reached public understanding and dialogue of political forces. "This way Ukraine is passing now, and I am convinced of success on this question," Yushchenko said.
The President separately thanked Latvian Sejm for its decision to condemn the Holodomor of 1932 - 1933 in Ukraine.
Following the talks, the presidents of Ukraine and Latvia signed a joint statement.
Ukraine and Latvia also signed the program of economic cooperation for 2008 - 2009, the agreement on guidelines for cooperation in the field of protection of consumers' rights between the State Consumer Standards Committee of Ukraine and the Latvian Center for the Protection of Consumers' Rights, and the agreement on cooperation in the field of standardization.
